Great newsletter as usual. Though I have to disagree with your thoughts on the iPad. I think you are on the right track about sending a slate to potential clients, but the iPad in particular would be a poor choice. The software architecture of the device would severely limit the way a photographer could present their work. A better platform, one that would allow limitless presentation possibilities, would be Google’s open source Android. This summer many Android slates are coming to market that will compete with the iPad. With luck an enterprising developer will fulfill your desires for a slick app to wow your customers. I may even give it a shot!
Great info Tim. I wish Apple would figure out something with Adobe so they can run Flash on the iPhone and iPad. It is ridiculous that Flash websites and video doesn’t work on either of those devices.
Yeah the Apple vs. Adobe thing is a drag, but in the end there are other tools for the job. For a promo slate application it might make more sense to write something specifically for the system (for example, use the Java programming language for Android), so you could completely customize the experience. You want your customers to hit the power button and the first they see is your work. The iPad doesn’t allow this level of customization. As it stands now, you would have to deliver an iPad with a postit note explaining which app to open. That is weaksauce. By the way, I loved the Google video. Keep up the good work!
