Over the last several months, I have had a chance to test out the Lowepro Whistler 450 AW backpack designed for adventure photographers that need a go-anywhere, do-anything backpack. Having worked with Lowepro in the past as one of their sponsored photographers, they were kind enough to send me the Whistler 450 AW. So, to...
Michael, I totally agree with you. I own the Whistler since a couple of month and did some tough tours in Andalusia, Spain. And I can say I was able to take photos in gorges with professional epuipment they had never been taken before. Regarding the width of the pack: I have got the same impression of the small width and the difference between the Lowepro marketing pictures and the real life. But there are much more options to pack your gear than the pack manufatures will teach you.
I think the 350 is going to be ideal for me, being shorter and shooting mirrorless. One thing I do is shoot on beaches. As such sand, notably on the opening panel and straps has been a nightmare. It looks like this bag could help with that.
One question. Can the folding access panel fold in both directions without damaging it? I ask because I think I’d want to do a cheapie mod and glue a velcro hook and pad on the inside so that when opening the back, the panel could be folded so that it will never touch the ground. Touch sand and unfortunately it gets in everywhere.
Cheers
Bryan – Yes, it does go both directions.
Is this backpack able to transport a 17.3″ laptop?
My 15-inch MacBook Pro, which is actually longer than 15-inches, just fits into the pack. Not sure what laptop you are talking about. If you have a 17-inch screen on your laptop, I am not sure it would fit.
